ALSWA has a vacancy for a criminal lawyer in its Kalgoorlie office.

The position will involve daily appearance work in the Magistrates and Children’s Court in relation to contests, pleas and bail applications. There is also scope to appear in the District Court in relation to pleas and trial work.

The office services one of the biggest Magistrate’s districts in the world and the lawyer will have the opportunity to do circuit court work at a number of desert Aboriginal communities across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.

As well as Kalgoorlie, ALSWA has a vacancy for a managing lawyer in its South Hedland office in the Pilbara. The role is not dissimilar to the Kalgoorlie one, save that the managing lawyer will supervise three junior lawyers in the office. Another great opportunity to practice criminal law in a unique environment as the office services a number of really remote Aboriginal communities including Jigalong, Nullagine and Marble Bar.

The role comes with a fully serviced car.

As Peter Collins – known to many from his time at the Victorian Bar – says, the clients are great, you will undergo a deep dive into Aboriginal culture and the work is really rewarding.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact Peter Collins at ALSWA: 0410 275 022 and pcollins@als.org.au.
